Brennan Malone Drafted 33rd Overall

It was very obvious we were working with a special talent the first time Brennan Malone showed up for team tryout at twelve years old. It has truly been gratifying to take part in the journey of a young man who has special talent combined with a desire to learn and the drive to be the very best he can be! Today that journey continues with a once in a lifetime achievement that everyone from this community can feel pride and excitement, Brennan was selected 33rd overall (1st Round Comp.) by the Arizona Diamondbacks.

It is easy to acknowledge the athletic gifts Brennan possesses, but it is more important to recognize the equally important characteristics that have led him to all the accolades and accomplishments he has enjoyed over the past of years. Brennan bought into a process and a plan. His loyalty and commitment never waivered. He found an organization in On Deck Academy that put his best interest first and constantly promoted the importance of being about the team. It was not an easy path. The workouts are gruelling, focused, and structured to challenge players mentally and physically. It did not take long for the rest of the country to take notice of his talent and growth. He could have played for any organization, but he chose to stay in the program that he knew cared first about him as a young man and also wanted to see him maximize his ability. He bought into the fact that the only way to truly achieve his goals was to outwork everyone and trust the process that had already produced proven results. In this day and age, that speaks volumes about the type of person Brennan is and the values his family instilled in him.

Kelli Malone, Brennan's mother, shared, "On Deck Academy has been an important part of our son's journey both on and off the field. For us, it was a relief to know Brennan was surrounded by people who genuinely care about his well being not just the win. On Deck focused on individual development first and never jeopardized Brennan's health and always had his best interest at heart. Coach Hill and Coach Steele have been wonderful mentors, always accessible and supportive. The staff, players and families all played a part in this journey. We are so thankful!"

He understood the importance of surrounding himself with good teammates who would stick by him, and he remained committed to them as well. Despite all the individual opportunities during the last two years, such as Perfect Game All-American Showcases, East Coast Professional Showcases, Team USA, Brennan remained committed to his On Deck O's team by attending practices, taking advantage of extra work at the facility and competing with them in events throughout the year. It was refreshing to be around a young man who never let the success he was earning go to his head. He always respected the game, competed hard, expected to win, and represented his team with class. We will never forget the experience of being on this journey with Brennan, and we are proud of the fact he is the type of person and player who will never forget where he is from and what it took to get to where he is now!
